But we have recently uncovered a fourth phase. This phase occurs next to water-loving (hydrophilic) surfaces. It is surprisingly extensive, projecting out from the surface by up to millions of molecular layers. And, its properties differ markedly from those of bulk water.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hado.com\/ihm\/2070\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/20160402-75-14-300x400.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hado.com\/ihm\/2070\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/20160402-75-14-300x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"400\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3523\" align=\"right\" hspace=\"20\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hado.com\/ihm\/2070\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/20160402-75-14-300x400.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hado.com\/ihm\/2070\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/20160402-75-14-300x400-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Of particular significance is the observation that this fourth phase is charged; and, the water just beyond is oppositely charged, creating a battery that can produce electrical current. We found that light charges this battery. Thus, water can receive and process electromagnetic energy drawn from the environment in much the same way as plants. Absorbed electromagnetic (light) energy can then be exploited for performing work, including electrical and mechanical work. Recent experiments confirm the reality of such energy conversion.<\/p>\n<p>This energy-conversion framework seems rich with implication.
